Hello all! You may have noticed that I’m not writing much lately; this is not a lack of ideas or inspiration, but a demand for my emotional and physical energy on other endeavors. If you have left me comments or sent me emails, thank you! I will respond…someday!
Seven years ago, our family moved to Iowa City from Los Angeles so my husband could begin work on a PhD, and as of last week, he is officially Dr. Plank (a feat for which I am unbelievably proud). In the coming weeks, we will end our time here in Iowa, say some very difficult goodbyes, and make our way back out to California.
We are moving to the Sacramento area where we will live for six months before we join the spring 2014 voyage of Semester at Sea. My husband is working on the ship and our whole family is going for the adventure.
This move will be a big transition for our family. As I think about closing my in home childcare program, I am overwhelmed with emotion: grief for the end of a very significant piece of my life, gratitude for the children and families who have shared their lives with me, and anticipation as I look to what comes next. I will continue to travel and consult (join me this fall in Washington, Minnesota, Iowa, or Canada) and of course, I will be writing here regularly!
I have several writing projects in my head that I am hoping to move forward, and while we sail, I am looking to connect with educators and learning sites in other countries, using that cultural experience to inform my further research and teaching.
As we make this transition, I want to connect with passionate folks in new parts of the country and around the world! If you are an educator in California, or if you live in any of these cities (sites for our Semester at Sea travels), I would love to hear from you! You can leave a comment or email me through the form on this page.

Thank you for your patience with me as we transition. I have a few articles that I’m about to post, but my writing will be infrequent for the next month or two. But, never fear! I’ll be back to more regular blogging soon.
